Why Canopy exists

Built by a parent, for parents.

I built Canopy because I needed it. Managing parenting across two homes creates real challenges: multiple schedules, ongoing logistics, and important information about my children scattered across more sources than anyone could reasonably keep track of — school emails, newsletters, clubs and external lessons, schedule changes, health and wellbeing.

More than the logistics, it was the mental load. The things you carry because there’s nowhere obvious to put them. The conversations you have to initiate because there’s no shared space to just see what’s going on, and the existing options all fail to provide the features and user experience I would expect for a paid app.

Canopy started as a way to address that. A shared space where both parents stay informed without needing to be in constant contact. Where external help or relatives can also stay in the loop. Where communication happens when it is truly required, not as an obligation.

Every feature in Canopy can be turned on or off to suit how your family works. Because no two families are the same — and the app should fit around you, not the other way around.

Canopy is built for families — not advertisers. We store only what you need, with your permission, and you can take it all back at any time.

Encrypted end-to-end

All data travels over HTTPS. Documents in your vault are encrypted at rest with AES-256. Passwords are hashed and never stored. Child account passwords use an additional encryption layer.

No advertising. No data selling. Ever.

We don’t serve ads, track you across the web, or sell data to anyone. There are no analytics trackers on this site. Canopy is funded entirely by subscriptions — your data is not the product.

You consent to everything sensitive

Medical information about your children is treated as sensitive data. Canopy asks for your explicit consent before storing any of it — and before AI processes any email content. Both can be withdrawn at any time in the app.

AI features are transparent and optional

When you forward a school email or photograph a flyer, the content is sent to Anthropic’s Claude AI solely to extract events. Anthropic does not retain API data for training. You can turn this feature off at any time — nothing is processed without your consent.

Two-factor authentication

Protect your account with email-based two-factor authentication. Once enabled, every new login requires both your password and a one-time code — so your family’s data stays safe even if your password is ever compromised.

We process your data lawfully, wherever you and your family are based. Our Privacy Policy sets out every lawful basis, every processor we use, and exactly what we store — in plain English.
